MINHO – THE MOST NORTHERN RIVER IN PORTUGAL – 6 days
The Minho is an international river and has a length of about 211 miles / 340 kms. The last 46 miles / 75 kms of the journey are the border between Spain and Portugal (between Melgaço and Caminha). There are 14 islands across the Minho River section that are shared between both countries, four of which are considered to be international. For 5 days we will explore the Minho valley and its medieval villages. The region is famous for the green landscape, delicious food and it’s famous white Alvarinho wine. Paddle and explore with us one of the most beautiful rivers and region of Portugal.

day 1 – Arrival day at porto
It is the arrival day at Porto. Your accommodation will allow you to enjoy jaw dropping views and short walks without too much effort.
After settling in, our guide can helps with any tips and needs.
We will have a group dinner with a fantastic view to the UNESCO World Heritage “Ribeira Porto”.
Accommodation is in Porto City.

Day 2 – train TO Monção – THE ALVARINHO WINE REGION
In the morning we will take the Douro Train Line from the historic São Bento station in Porto, all the way to along the Minho River to Valença do Minho.
After lunch we will have the opportunity to visit an Alvarinho white wine production farm.
Our accommodation is in a typical rural lodge at Monção.

day 3 – paddling begins – Monção to Valença
Today we will paddle from Monção to Valença. The river scenery and geography gently changes but remains green.
Our accommodation is at Monção.

day 4 – paddling the castles in valença and vila nova de cerveira
We will launch our kayaks at Valença. Our trip today will take us through scenery of unique natural beauty.
In Valença and Vila Nova de Cerveira there are historical walled fortifications which we will have the opportunity to visit.
Accommodation will be in Vila Nova Cerveira.

day 5 – The last stage of the minho – Vila Nova de Cerveira to Caminha
Today is the last day of our kayak tour, a nostalgic feeling invades the heart of each one of us. However, the beautiful scenery will stay with us forever. We will paddle from Vila Nova de Cerveira to Caminha.
Caminha where the Minho River meets with the sea. Caminha is also the most northern and coastal town in Portugal.
Accommodation will be in Vila Nova Cerveira.

day 6 – free day in porto and departure
A drive south to Porto will return us to the city where we started earlier in the week.
We will have time to have lunch together and remember the best moments of our expedition.
Every guest will have their own decisions to make on this last day. Some will continue their trip in Portugal or Europe, others will take a flight back home. The luckier ones will stay more days in Porto to continue exploring.
Whatever you decide, we will help you organize your continued or return trip (train station or airport).
